Doors manufactured in the United States and Canada within the last five years include photocells to prevent tntrapment. This safety system is at the botom of the door usually between 4"-8" above the floor. If the door senses movement or a blocking object while closing, it will open again. What is important to know:

Photocells must be properly aligned to work

Lenses must be clean

Lenses can be damaged by exposure to sunlight

To test this garage door security system in your home, from the inside of your home, try closing the door and then roll a ball that is bigger than height of the photocell. If it does not make the door to open again or stop from closing, you need to contact a professional to inspect it. At All About Doors, we are committed to your safety and will perform an inspection of your system for proper performance.

Installing a new garage door in your home is not only for convenience these days, it also adds security to your home. Manufacturers of home garage doors include in their design a variety of locks to protect you from a break in. When considering buying a new garage door, think of your safety and peace of mind.

If you do not have an automatic, self locking garage door at the moment, we recomment you install a padlock and steel hasp. If you have a door from the garage to the inside of your home, secure it from the inside with a dead bolt.
